HBCU Scholarship Presented to Spelman College Student
In June, Delta Community and Atlanta radio station V-103 awarded our second HBCU Scholarship of 2021 to Erin Foster, a sophomore at Spelman College.
Erin is an outstanding scholar, pursuing a degree in Political Science with aspirations to become a judge. She has maintained high grades as a member of the Dean’s List, all while serving as the Vice President of the Sophomore Class Council. Erin is very involved in her community and has volunteered as a dance instructor with the I Am Arts Community Partnership, supported the educational development of children in underserved communities by creating flashcards for Jumpstart for Young Children, and helped assemble and pack meals for children in the Smart Kid Summer Feeding and Enrichment Program. In addition, she volunteered with the Village Tutorial and Enrichment Program and created STEAM activity kits for elementary students in the afterschool program.
Throughout 2021, we will award a total of $10,000 in scholarships to students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the state of Georgia. The HBCU Scholarship is part of Delta Community’s annual Scholarship Program. Visit our website to learn more about all of the scholarships that we offer.
Delta Community Named Credit Union of the Year
Each year, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU) recognizes professionals, volunteers and credit unions that make outstanding contributions to the development and growth of the credit union movement. We are pleased to share that LSCU recently named Delta Community its 2020 Credit Union of the Year! In addition to this honor, Delta Community’s longtime board member Esther Hammond was named Volunteer of the Year. “Institutions honored as Credit Union of the Year demonstrate the all-around best the industry has to offer,” explained Ann Naiman, communications director for LSCU. “These credit unions have accomplished outstanding achievements in the areas of daily operations, financial prowess and community outreach. Our Volunteer of the Year award recognizes volunteers from LSCU-affiliated credit unions who have selflessly contributed their time, effort and talent to the development of the credit union movement in their state, and we are pleased to recognize Esther Hammond as our Volunteer of the Year for Georgia.”
Philanthropic Fund Grants Awarded in June
We recently presented another grant from our 2021 Philanthropic Fund, totaling $10,000, to S.H.A.R.E. House, Inc, a nonprofit organization providing crisis intervention and continuing care to victims of family violence. The funds from this grant will go towards their Teen Center, which will enhance and expand their children service programs already in place. The Teen Center will help create a supportive environment and positive experience to teens living in shelters, by implementing activities that promote healthy relationships and help build self-confidence.
The Delta Community Philanthropic Fund will invest a total of $125,000 throughout 2021 in 20 metro Atlanta nonprofit organizations that support the physical and financial needs of people who live within the communities we serve.

- Don’t Click ‘Unsubscribe’ From Spam Emails and Texts—Managing Spam: For many people there is a daily dependence on their work or personal cellphone and computer for the tasks they need or want to accomplish online. Along with a variety of communications options, there are plenty of unwanted messages that come into inboxes and text apps that seem to be unending—spam. Spam emails and texts are a regular and annoying disadvantage of our reliance on the 21st century digital technology that is present in all parts of our lives.
- Learning a Lesson in Back to School Savings: So…it’s getting well into the summer, fall is coming, and that can only mean it’s time for one of the many annual rites that parents indulge in—the official buying of back-to-school supplies. Whether it’s uniforms, rulers, pens, notebooks, backpacks, erasers, binders, folders, pencils, calculators or laptop computers—or hundreds of other types of required materials or equipment—back-to-school shopping is a big event for parents, students and retailers, as well as the states that tax some of these purchases.
